Spain has always been a source of inspiration for composers. Sometimes real, sometimes imaginary, over the centuries it has become a land of passion, color, and contrasts, where dance, song, and virtuosity intertwine. This gala concert invites the audience to explore this dreamlike Spain, as it has been captured in the imagination of many European artists.
Structured in two parts, the program opens with a musical journey led by Irish soprano Sarah Shine, a former member of the first graduating class of the Paris National Opera Academy and now a regular guest on major international stages. Accompanied by musicians from the Paris National Opera, a guitarist, and a percussionist playing castanets, she performs a program in which various evocations of Spain interplay: spellbinding rhythms, reimagined folk melodies, and flashes of light unique to this musical world.
The second half gives way to dance with an original choreography by Maxime Thomas, created specifically for the festival to Enrique Granados’s Spanish Dances, in a new arrangement for the musicians gathered in Fontainebleau. Performing in close proximity to the musicians, the dancers of the Paris National Opera bring to life a work in which music and movement interact in perfect harmony. Conceived as a convergence of artistic disciplines, this performance celebrates the power of collaboration and the creative spirit that animates the Cadences Libres festival.
