Costumes are true extensions of singing and acting in opera: they play an essential role, shaping a character’s visual identity, reflecting the director’s vision, and contributing to the magic of the performance. Their creation brings together exceptional craftsmanship, where imagination, sewing, sculpture, painting, and a sense of movement meet. Through their materials and colors, they bring music, dramaturgy, and emotion to life.
For this first edition of Cadences Libres, an exhibition will be devoted to the costumes of Vanessa Sannino, a creator renowned for her poetic and bold universe. A highly respected costume designer on major international stages, she regularly collaborates with the Opéra-Comique and creates works where the elegance of lines meets the power of symbolism. She is the recipient of a Molière Award for costume design and another for visual creation.
Presented at the Fontainebleau Municipal Theatre, this exhibition will offer the public a rare glimpse behind the scenes of lyrical creation: discovering the beauty of gesture, the richness of materials, and the inspiration of those who, in the shadows of the stage, give form to the magic of opera.
At 3:30 PM, a meeting will take place with Alexandre Bodin, head of the costume / wardrobe / wig and makeup department at the Opéra-Comique, alongside Vanessa Sannino, the costume designer. This conversation will be hosted by Emmanuel Jaeger, a cultural events producer with a multidisciplinary approach.
