The Art of Costume: A Conversation with the Opéra-Comique

The Opéra-Comique is one of the few French lyric theatres still to maintain costume and wig workshops.
Located on the upper floors of the building, the Costume and Wig Workshops bring together a highly technical craft in historical and contemporary cutting and sewing, hat-making, accessories, dyeing, patination, and textile enhancement.
They also house a wig-making studio whose very particular expertise ranges from taking impressions to implanting hair, as well as colouring, cutting, and styling. Convinced of the importance of environmental issues, the workshops integrated natural dyeing early on and recycle costumes by adapting them to new creations.
In the Salle des Fêtes of the Fontainebleau Municipal Theatre, Alexandre Bodin, head of the costume, wardrobe, wig, and makeup department at the Opéra-Comique, and Vanessa Sannino, costume designer, will present the unique expertise of this house founded in 1714 and discuss it with the public. This meeting will be hosted by Emmanuel Jaeger, artistic advisor to the festival and a producer of multidisciplinary cultural events.
